I’m getting there

Last week I finally joined a new corporation, and the past few days I’ve gotten more action than I did in the past few months.

I’ve gone on roams, I made a jita shopping list, even tried out ships I had never flown before.

I’ve been on two roams now in a Svipul and I enjoy the ship. I love the fact that it changes it’s look if you go in a different mode and it’s quite fun. Not only that, I haven’t lost one yet! Hooray

Svipul Roam

I did lose a claw a few days ago but that was my own fault. Silly me trying to be hero tackle. That obviously failed because I also failed to land on any other kill mail at the time.

The one thing I still need to get used to is that unlike when I was in High Sec, I can’t just open the market browser and buy whatever I need. I can’t, because the current market is non-existent. The corporation I joined does have a service from Jita to their home so that’s nice. Means I just need to make more shopping lists and figure out what I need and when I’ll be needing it.

Although it did got me thinking of maybe, just maybe setting up shop over there too. I’ll be looking into that once I’m used to it some more.

Unfortunately my ISK making ways have dried out a bit. My production lines are currently not doing anything because the profit I was making per day wasn’t enough anymore. 20million a day vs 100+ half a year ago. It’s a shame, it was easy ISK, and now I have no idea what to do to make more of it.

I’m trying my hand at station trading in Jita and Amarr a bit and I’m making ISK with it, but also only a few million per time, my production used to net me more. So I’ll have to figure out something new. Maybe in Null, maybe somewhere else.

I’m still thinking of w-space, and I’m looking around, I still have another combat character that I’m training to get into a wormhole, so maybe I can have her join a wormhole crew. If they’ll have me.

We’ll see

Job interviews aren’t as hard

Finding a corporation to join in EvE Online, is a pain in the ass. Or at least it is for me. Why? Because I want to find the best fit that I can have, and that means checking out a LOT of corporations and having a LOT of conversations and mailing go back and forth.

And even when you finally figure out that you want to join a certain one, someone else invites you to have a little conversation and you start thinking “Oh, wow these guys could be it too”.

One of usSource: Control Alt Delete comic

Not only that, but even if you then finally figure out which people you like best, you get interviewed by them too. This all made me think of a CAD comic from some time ago. It describes the process vs other MMO’s quite well. Even to the part of the blood sample, although I’m sure they were kidding about that one… *shifty eyes*

This was how I spent most of my day yesterday and the day before.

I made a post on the forums, stating that I was in need of a new corporation, new friends and what I was looking for.

Turns out, what I’m looking for is too general and that made sure that I was not only contacted by the kind that I was looking for, but also by people who did mostly mining.

I wondered where in my post I ever defined that I wanted to mine but turns out that some people define ‘Industry’ as mining. Who knew, I sure didn’t.

For those of you out there that do define this as mining, I get where you’re coming from, but it’s not, not really. My definition of industry as a whole would be the invention and/or manufacturing of the products, not really getting the raw material that you need to make them. Processing could work too but mining is just that, mining.

Anyhow, after two days of getting mails, having conversations etc etc, I finally decided to apply to one. I gave them my api key and am currently waiting to be accepted or denied.

I’m leaning towards the first, seeing as I don’t think I look like a spy, I’d probably suck at it anyhow.

If I do get accepted, I’ll be going back to Null sec, give them another shot, I really hope that this time will be different. What I talked about with the Corporation’s CEO was positive, even their public channel was active and fun so, fingers crossed.

I still have a wish to go to w-space though. So I decided that I’m going to have my alt join another corporation, one that one of my readers joined a while back and sounds like fun. The alt isn’t that well trained and still has a ways to go, but I’m sure I can have fun in w-space as well as null sec. Best of both worlds I guess/hope.

We’ll see what happens

BB70: Dear Space Santa

Dear CCP, I want a Space-Pony and a Space-Puppy and a….
If CCP was Santa and you could ask for anything (in-game obviously) what would it be? A new type of ship that is tailored to your game-play? A change to mechanics? A battleship mini-doomsday weapon? Proper hats for your avatar? Opening of that bloody door? There are so many different options depending on what you do and what you want to get out of Eve Online. What would you like to see in your virtual Christmas stocking from CCP?
Welcome to the continuing monthly EVE Blog Banters and our 70th edition! For more details about what the blog banters are please visit the Blog Banter page.

When looking at the question of the latest Blog Banter it made me realize that there’s not really anything I want from CCP. Mostly because I haven’t been active enough to know what could be missing. I still don’t know what Citadels are going to be! I should probably read up on this.

Sure I could ask for ISK, or the ability to train my secondary characters cheaper than a PLEX (because these things have gotten expensive!) But those are things that I could do with a bit of effort.

So I’m not asking for anything virtual that CCP can give me, but for something different. I wish, I can finally find that one place to call home within the EvE universe. A group of people I can have fun with.

Bomber’s bar is one such group but unfortunately that only happens when on roams, the rest of the time I’m just sitting around spinning my ship or moving back and forth between my manufacturing system and Jita.

“Dear Santa, please make sure I make more of an effort to be an active part of any community… Oh, and get me some more ISK”

That should do it, don’t you think?

The fact that I’ve been talking a bit more to random people the past few days is a good sign for more to come, so hopefully, I’ll finally be able to settle somewhere.

Bomber’s bar, revisited

Yesterday was a good day. After chatting a bit with people on IRC (yes I still use IRC) I felt like joining a Bomber’s Bar op again. And I’m glad that I did.

The last time I joined a BB roam was in March, when I joined in the downing of a 3b Nidhoggur on my alt. That was also one of the last time I was still active in EvE, with that I mean logging in a few times a day instead of once a week, so a long time ago.

I’ve said it in previous blogs, and I’ll say it again, I LOVE NPSI ops. I’m afraid of going out to PvP solo but the fun thing about Bomber’s Bar is that I don’t need to hunt the whole time, they do it for us.

We were waiting in Thera for a target, there weren’t many people around last night so we decided to go for smaller ones instead of “whale” hunting. After jumping through the wormhole and waiting for a few more minute on the redeemer, cloaked of course. We were told in coms that a Charon was found, slowly tugging along to a gate. So, as soon as he jumped the gate, our hunter scrammed him. It took less than 5 minutes to go from no kills, to a 2.8b Charon.

After that we stuck around the gate for a bit, an Impel came through, after that a procurer. Turns out these guys don’t really listen to their own coms since yesterday evening I got on 4 kills from the same alliance, and a killing blow on a sabre. Spicing up my zKillboard with 3.5b ISK in kills.

Glad I decided that last night was a good night to be a bit more active again.

Other than that, I’ve been approached by someone who read the blog (yay readers!) to check out W-space again. To form a corporation and set up in a C3. My previous adventures in W-space didn’t work out so well, because of me not being active in a wh corp. And the other one because we were naïve enough to think we could duo a C4.

So I’m currently considering it, but I’m only going to try out another W-space adventure if we can find more people to join us. I know for a fact that two people in a hole can get lonely and usually means someone is doing more work that the other. And I know for a fact that I tend to get bored scanning solo after a while and the other guy might be working harder than me. I’d rather not get an EvE burn out again.

I should probably think about making a channel, so we can have a place to chat

Hitting close to home

A few days ago I decided to once more start EvE again.

I’ve been doing this a lot the past couple of months, way too many times. This partly due to other games, and partly because I never seem to play the way I should.

I join a corporation and then just sit there waiting for action to come my way. Wrong, I know, whatever, I’m trying to change, I really am!

The other day I stumbled upon a topic on /r/eve that hit really close to home. In it, the OP talk about being a shy guy, unable to make friends in space. The reason why this hit close to home for myself is because I feel the same way from time to time. I usually play games with my RL friends, but unfortunately none of them actually like EvE, so I go out and try to find a place where I might just belong.

I hit it off with people and then just, stay quiet. I know that this is my own fault, and I should talk to people, should go on roams etc. But for someone who isn’t a fan of being on TS the whole time something like this is extremely hard.

But the topic was an eye opener for me, and I’m going to try and change that about myself. Say hi more often, maybe even make a few friends that I can fly with.

In case you want to know which topic on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/3vma5b/i_am_for_the_lack_of_a_better_word_conflicted/

New player in town

A few months ago, a friend of mine pointed me towards an upcoming MMO. This one would allow you to play on your pc, your tablet and even your cellphone. It would not matter where you are you’d be able to log in with one of the supported devices and continue playing.

I was intrigued but forgot all about it due to the many, many other games around.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago. This game was going to go in closed beta and my friend had already bought a founder pack. Buying that he had access to alpha but every time there was an alpha he was out of the country and without any time to test it.

This time it was different, he turned it on, gave me feedback and the second day of the closed beta I was sold. I bought a founder pack too.

The game I’m talking about is Albion Online. It’s basically a sandbox game, not unlike EvE Online. There’s an AMA from the developers that gives a lot of information about the game itself and a lot of examples picked out of EvE.

This is not a coincidence because one CCP’s ex-developers helped with the creation of the game.

It’s harder than most MMO’s because you actually have to work to get higher up. In most these days you get a lot of things thrown into your lap. In here, that’s not the case.

Which is part of why I’m liking it so much.

Unfortunately, the closed beta will currently run for three months, meaning that the release will be in Q2 2016 at the earliest. So, I guess I’ll have to be patient.

Do check out the AMA and the game’s site. The developers are rather active and the game shows promise.

There’s lots of streamers on Twitch playing it, I stream it too from time to time but I’m trying my utmost best not to play too much.

What with it being beta, there will be a wipe near release so I don’t want to spend too many hours on something that won’t be there in a few months.

Fallout 4 has arrived

As most of you know, Fallout 4 released a few days. And like any other gamer out there, I’ve been playing it for the past few days.

Despite not really following any news on the game, those last few days waiting for it were way too long. Due to veteran’s day I took off the entire week, it was just a lucky coincidence that the game launched in the same week that I was off and my girlfriend had to work. Or was it… Hmm

Due to the fact that I couldn’t wait for the midnight release on tuesday. I, like many others, connected to a VPN in Australia to have the game unlock for me a bit sooner (11 hours to be exact) so I could play without losing sleep.

There’s been a lot of people talking about Fallout, what they like, what they dislike, lots of reviews, everything you need to know about the game is somewhere out there online. So I don’t really feel like talking about everything.

What I do want to say though, is that I absolutely love it. I currently played about 25 hours total on it, and haven’t even started progressing the main story yet.

It’s been a few years since New Vegas came out and we were able to roam one of the wastelands that came about after the Great War, which started and ended on October 23 2077, for the first time. And we all missed it (or at least most of us did).

I played through Fallout 3 and New Vegas a few times and was looking forward to this instalment of the games.
It does not disappoint at all, unless you’re one of those people that likes to whine about the fact that grafics aren’t what they should be. I have to admit that it’s not like GTA V or The Witcher, but it still looks and play pretty good.

Ghouls terrify me though. I never liked them in the previous games but the Fallout 4 ghouls are like the World War Z zombies. They’re fast when they spot you, and it’s freaky. Every time I come across “corpses” I shoot them again, just in case they suddenly stand up.

Fallout 4 crafting is fun, and if you’re into building, the settlements will take away hours upon hours of your time.

In general, if you liked the previous games, you’ll love this one. Some things have changed, but in the end, all we really want to do; is explore the commonwealth.

It’s so pretty!

A few weeks ago I upgraded my entire gaming desktop to Skylake.

For those of you who don’t really follow technological news, Skylake is Intel’s newest architecture, it got released with two new processor chips, the i5 6500k and the i7 6700k. Seeing that I not only play games but also do some virtualization and whatnot I went with the i7.

I didn’t really need an upgrade, I had an i7 2600k that was overclocked pretty much to the max it could go without melting my motherboard, but I wanted to. That plus, DDR4! Yay

Anyhow. While playing Elder Scrolls Online a bit I started browsing the Skyrim subreddit, saw a bunch of beautiful screenshots of how a modded up Skyrim looks. And decided to try out my luck on modding a bit too.

Let’s just say that I’ve spent more time on getting all the mods to work than playing. Not only is modding the game to look prettier addictive, it’s not that easy to get them all to work the way they should. It took multiple hours for me to have it running stable and on a decent FPS level but I’m happy with it. For now.

So I’ve got yet another game to keep myself busy with. Playing Skyrim with mods is something that I was planning to do for ages and finally got to that point. I’m sure that I’m still missing a lot of them that could make it even prettier, but for now, I’m pretty happy with the results.

What’s happening

Well, it’s been a while since my last post. I would say that I’ve been busy but that would be a lie because I’m not.

I’m currently playing Elder Scrolls Online again. A co-worker of mine plays the game and seeing as I got bored with WoW once more, I decided to start ESO again.

In the past few weeks I’ve leveled up from Veteran 4 to Veteran 15, so I’m one level away from max, after which. Well I have no idea whatsoever what will happen then, I’m hoping my co-worker will help me out with that, but seeing that he has been doing that since I started again, that shouldn’t be a problem.

The game itself is pretty fun, quests are the same kind of get this, kill that quests as in any other MMO but I like the elder scrolls feel of it all, plus there’s so many books to read!

In a few weeks it’ll be time for a few new games, the biggest one I’m anticipating is Fallout 4. I’ve got my pre-order ready, and around the same time my steam controller will arrive too.

Just a few more weeks! Can’t wait!

I’ll try to think about updating more in the near future

The worst luck

I have the worst luck when it comes to playing Rocket League.

I love the game, I do, but I just can’t seem to get a break while playing. Either I get set up with someone who can’t hit the ball, or the other team gets lucky.. Extremely lucky even.

A nice example of this is one of the games I played yesterday. I had the ball, thought I’d score by laying it in the corner but unfortunately I hit the side post a bit too hard. So it bounced across the arena.

Now imagine, having no boost (for those that don’t know about the game, boost just gives you more speed) and a team mate that has no idea how to hit the ball.

I saw the two guys from the other team try to hit the ball and just miss it by miles, then my team mate comes up and misses too. The ball then rolled, at a snail pace, in my own goal.

That stuff NEVER happens to the other teams I play against. I sometimes play with a friend of mine, he’s currently Silver I, he wins most of his games, up until the point he teams up with me.
When playing with me he gets amazed at how lucky the other teams get with shots. It literally has nothing to do with skill, all just luck.

I should start saving my games and just post the parts where you’d go “No way, that could never have happened” and I’ll show you, it happened to me.
