On the move

I did a lot of jumps last night before heading to bed.

I’ve been looking for a corporation for a while now with a friend of mine, either to go back to wormholes, or have a look at Sov Space.
Yesterday our search came to an end when we(well my friend first) decided to join a null sec corporation. So I spent the last of my evening before I headed out to bed last night, jumping down to their staging system in order to start figuring out what’s different in sov space null today;

From what I’ve seen so far the corporation seems an easy going and fun one. Here’s hoping that the CTA’s don’t mess with me too much. But it’s easy to move out anyhow, we’ll see how it goes.

My trading has come to somewhat of a standstill due to the fact that prices of the implants I was buying and selling on one of my alts has dropped quite a bit. If I were to sell them at the price they’re currently at I would be selling them with too much of a loss. So I decided to put a pause on it for now and wait for the prices to go up again.

My manufacturer however is still happily chugging along with her industry jobs. They currently make up for most of my income, with all my manufacturing and trading of the past month I made about 2.2 billion.

Along with the fact that I sold the Tengu pilot again (for 2b more than I bought it last month) I made about 14b in total. So I currently have way too much liquid ISK.

But I started training for capital production, once I get my skills up a bit I’ll be looking into that some more.

NPSI, Bombers Bar joint op on Saturday

NPSI, the abbreviation for “Not Purple, Shoot It”. A mindset that communities such as Bombers Bar/Spectre Fleet use, you join a fleet of likeminded people and just shoot at whatever’s not in fleet, both allies and enemies alike.

I’ve joined in a few Bombers Bar roams now, and as those of you who’ve read my previous blog posts know, I love joining them. Not only do I get a bit more experience shooting things, I also do more than just spin my ship because of it.

The past few hours of my Saturday evening were spent in a fleet set up by the Bombers Bar and WTM community. When I joined we were told that we’d go and try to get a few carrier kills and afterwards have a ‘Free for all’ with the people in bombers/cloakies that wanted to.

Previous Bombers Bar fleets, the amount of people joining was usually around 50 to 60. Today there were 145 people in Bombers, ready to shoot.

Let’s just say that it was fun, despite the traffic control.

During the fleet there were a few giveaways, one of which was a bomber for the person with the best cat.gif picture linked. The guys judging the pictures had a lot of work to do, about 100 people posting gifs is a lot of links to click.

Once a carrier was spotted the next giveaway got announced, the first people to get point on it (other than the hunters) would be getting a few goodies. Not only are the people who take care of the fleets giving us nice kills, they were also going to be giving us ships, and other goodies for doing things in the fleet.
We killed an Archon, there were 108 pilots involved in the kill, the amount of torpedoes shot was such a pretty sight.

“Look at them go”

After the Archon kill we waited a bit, changed region and waited for another target.
“Ready to jump oh captain my captain”
We got another cyno & bridge a bit later, but unfortunately, due to so many people jumping at one, traffic control decided to not let us through immediately so the target was able to escape.
“Follow the leader, he’ll be your bridge for today”
After this the fleet was going to stand down due to the fact that our Jump Fatigue timer was getting a bit too high, those who wanted to kill their team mates, were told to get ready for a little Free for All.

Instead of NPSI, the new rule was going to be NCSI (Not Cloaked, Shoot It). Every purple on grid was a target.

I didn’t last until the end, but I got my first last hit on a bomber with a bomb during the FFA. So next to the Archon kill, I’d call that an OP success.

“Tengu on grid? Kill it!”

My Bomber alt is slowly starting to get an extremely nice Killboard, and I’m pretty certain that I’ll be getting a whole lot more kills by joining them.
Content creation at its best.

Those of you who haven’t tried it yet, I can do nothing else than tell you to try and join the Bombers Bar channel in game. There’s fleets almost every night and they’re definitely worth joining. They even set up a Reddit, Facebook and Twitter account. Check it out.

End of chapter one

On Saturday we decided to leave the wormhole that we moved to a few weeks ago. This due to multiple reasons, the one that made the decision the easiest was the fact that it was turning into a huge ISK-sink. And only two people trying to make it work, isn’t easy in a C4.

The decision was made after I lost a Raven while rolling one of the statics. I didn’t mind the loss, not at all, it was beautiful and I didn’t see it coming at all.
We were rolling another C4, which at the time seemed inactive, nobody around and we figured it was safe enough to take out our Ravens to roll the hole. What happens is that you use the mass to get the hole to critical mass and after a certain amount of jumps through it, it should pop behind you.
“Bubble up!”
Cue the first jump, it went perfectly, we go in the other C4, MWD’s on (this is to increase our mass) and then go back out. Now once you jump through and back in, you get a timer stopping you from jumping for around 2 minutes, so you wait until it expires before going back through.
I’m guessing that our first jump alerted the locals to what we were doing, because once I jumped in for the second pass, two Proteus’ uncloaked on me and scrambled me. I wasn’t too worried at first, I could just jump back through, if it wasn’t for the fact that they started to bump me away from the hole. I immediately alerted the other Raven to not jump through and asked if the ones in the hole could help me out. I could tank it for a while but there was only me and my friend, he couldn’t really do anything against two Proteus’ solo and my Raven only had smartbombs and neuts. I did do some damage, but not nearly enough to outlast it.
A few minutes later I lost my Raven, bounced to a planet in pod, exchanged “GF” in local and bounced back to the wormhole and into our POS.
We talked about our wormhole life, decided to call it quits in the C4 and started moving out a few hours later, when our connections gave us a good highsec system to jump to. I also lost a pod while jumping back and forth, this time to a smart bombing legion (woops)
The last of our assets got moved out yesterday and shipped to Jita with PushX and Red-Frog (got to love courier services).
While moving assets I did lose another bomber to a gate camp in Aunenen, a system that’s supposedly known for its gatecamps. I did not know this. But after losing the bomber I went back to the highsec system I had my assets in, this time with a Cheetah, probed a hole, and got lucky with it’s other connections because one hole further there was a highsec connection 2 jumps from Jita. Which made it extremely easy to get the two Tengus I had stored in the system next to Aunenen back to Jita.
Who knew that wormholes could come in handy like that!
Not only did I move out of the wormhole this weekend, I also joined another two bombers bar runs on my bomber character (Saturday and Sunday) and had a good amount of fun to make up for my losses, got a few more kills out of it too.
“I think they were mad we killed a Thanatos and Proteus”
Despite it being somewhat of an ISK sink I did enjoy my time in a wormhole of our own and am already thinking of going back to one, however, this time there’s got to be a better plan. Either ally with someone and join them in C4 or move into a C2.
We probably should have seen those problems coming but it’s another lesson learned, and that’s what matters most, people make mistakes and we learn from them.
Plus I’ve been losing a ton of ships the past couple of weeks so I’m finally learning how to not care too much about losing a ship, yay!

A milestone of sorts

A hundred, the number of posts that this blog currently contains (with this included) so this post, is a milestone for me.
I have been blogging for a year and a half now, some of my posts being fun to write, others were written because I felt like I had to put something on here. I’ve had a few people contact me ingame telling me they liked my blog which made me smile, and other people comment on my posts asking why I did certain things.
Like at the very beginning people asking me why I called myself a noob despite having a ton of ISK at hand.
Writing about EvE helped me in figuring out certain aspects of the game and made me into a better player. I am still very much a noob (as my wormhole adventures show) but I’m learning and enjoying what I do in the game, which is what matters.

I spent a long time writing about high-sec and my industry, some of my null sec parts and now wormhole space. There are still so many things to explore and I plan on getting there eventually, it might take some time but I’ll get there.

Thank you, dear reader, for sticking with me. Or hello new reader and welcome to my blog. Some of my posts might be boring but I hope that some of the other blogs will make you smile or at least think about your own time in EvE.

I have no idea what my future in the game might hold but I will try and continue writing about it, as long as there’s one person reading, I’ll be a happy camper.

Now, onto the other stuff!

Last week I decided to dust off my Rens and Amarr traders again, so I’ve been doing some station trading and experimenting with items I used to buy and sell over there.
I’ve had moderate success and made a slight profit for now, so that’s good.

Seeing as I browse reddit from time to time I came across a post from the creator(s?) of Eve-mogul giving people the opportunity for an extended trial of their tool and I have to admit that I’m impressed with it. It’s not really giving me all the options that I might want or need (seeing as I do both trading and manufacturing from a few accounts) but if you’re into trading, why not go check it out.
I’m not sure if they still offer the extended trial but new accounts get 7 days, which isn’t bad either.

As for the wormhole life it’s boring from time to time, but I talked with my friend and we’re looking into joining an alliance, or atleast find a few other people we can chat with. If you, my dear reader, have any suggestions, feel free to shout it out to me. I’m always up to meeting new people!

And once more, thanks for joining me on my adventures.

Why do you even try?

Someone’s been trying to manipulate the sentry drone market in Jita the past week. Prices have been fluctuating between 1.2-1.9m for a Bouncer II in the past few days and the same happened with Curators earlier in the week.

I can’t help but wonder why this person did what he did. More than likely to make a quick profit but in order to do so he/she had to buy every single Sentry drone below his wanted price and then put them up again for way above their normal sell price. That would mean that one person in Jita is currently sitting on a few thousand sentry drones.

The problem with this is, that he/she is not the only one in this certain market. On any given day you can see the prices change fast and stock go (if you camp it) relatively quickly. Which is because drones is something that everybody need and they tend to die quite a lot. If you want to take over a market, don’t do it with something that is relatively easy to make, certainly not something that fluctuates on a daily basis.

I wonder if the person doing it made a profit. I know I did, I still had some drones lying about and decided to sell them as soon as I saw the price change for the better.

Now I can’t help but wonder if Gardes and Wardens are going to be next. Maybe I should stock up on them too…

As for my industry, I’m making a nice profit again by manufacturing. Although I’m not seeing the profit in jEveAssets, this is because I am putting more and more ships and ISK into the wormhole I occupy with a friend. I think I spent about 700-800m on helping with the fuel, a new poco and ships. Which is quite a bit seeing that for now I’ve only done sites ones. Which made me about 60m in half an hour so maybe I should do more of these.

Courier contracts are saving me precious time and ISK (because I’m bound to be blown up) but sometimes they don’t get filled, despite me giving 1m per jump (it’s only 4 jumps people, comon!).

I did try taking Red-Frog or Pushx but they take even longer than public contracts and I do not have the patience or time to wait for them to fill. This is mostly because I still don’t plan enough ahead and usually notice that I’m out of raw material once I want to click “Start” and it doesn’t do anything.

I keep saying that I should change my ways, but we all know that if by now I still haven’t learned to plan ahead enough, I probably never will.

We should have double checked

When living in a wormhole, there are a few things you’re supposed to do, or so I’ve learned.
The first one is to always check D-scan, no matter where you are, even if it’s in your POS, you want to check it. The reason for this is that you want to make sure that, if someone just decloaked, you know it. Because most people that live in wormholes fly around in cloaky ships, you never know if someone’s in there with you but you need to check D-scan anyhow.
The second one is to bookmark, bookmark EVERYTHING. You warp to a site? You bookmark it. You warp around planets? Bookmark a few spots so you can go there if you’re in a bind and they won’t be able to find you as quickly if you were to just warp to a planet.
You come into a hole? Bookmark the spot, found an entrance to another one? Bookmark.
It’s a very important thing because when you don’t bookmark certain spots, and you forget a scanner, you’re basically screwed.
And then there’s the lesson that I learned a while back but forgot to use earlier this evening:
“When entering a wormhole, before jumping through, check it’s life.”
I’m sure that those of you who are normal to living in wormholes knows what’s coming next. For those of you who are, like me, not too familiar with the mechanics. I’ll try to explain.
When you check the detailed information of a wormhole, it stated where it leads to (Highsec/Null/Low/Unknown space, which is another wormhole), how much time there’s left before it disappear, because that’s what they do, they disappear. How much mass has jumped through and how close it is to collapsing due to the fact that too many ships went through. And last, what kind of ships that can jump through it.
The time left on one, and the stability of it are very important. If it’s critical it can collapse behind you when you jump through. When the time states that it’s at the end of its life, that means that soon enough, it will collapse. You don’t know for certain when, but it’s going to happen sooner or later.
So when jumping through, you check it, always..
Guess who forgot.
All in all it’s not entirely my fault but still. My friend that I joined up with in w-space wanted to run a few sites since he hadn’t made any ISK in the past few weeks due to IRL stuff like exams, gf agro etc. etc. So, while watching a movie, I said “Sure why not, I’ll join”… We fleeted up and I followed him into our C2… Which was cleared of sites. “No biggy we can still make a bit of ISK in the C1” so we jumped through to the C1. Without checking so that’s where we both screwed up. We jumped to a site in the C1 and cleared it.
After doing so I noticed that I forgot to bring ammo so said that I’d just go back to the POS and pick some up. Cue me flying back to the C1 entrance to the C2 that leads back home.. I come at the bookmark and.. Nothing.
Just a bunch of empty space is staring back at me. Did I go to the wrong bookmark? Was the bookmark off a bit?
These two questions are denial, you’re hoping that nothing bad happened. So I logged in my other account and jumped into the C2 to check up on the C1 entrance. Nada, it was gone. That’s when I told my friend and he didn’t believe me, so of course he jumped to our bm. Said something along the lines of “Fuck” and went to his alt to check too.
We were stranded in a C1.. No biggy, we have probes, right? Right?! Yeah, no, we didn’t.
Oh, another thing to do in a wormhole: “Bring probes!”
So we figured that the quickest way out was to self-destruct.. We did say hi in local, hoping someone would be willing to give us an exit or even probes for a few mill, but no luck. We lost about 200m in ships that night, clearing a silly C1.

“Taking the pod express”

Mistakes were made, they will not be made again.
Or at least not in the near future when it’s still fresh in our minds

Bombs away

Tuesday night marked the third night that I joined Bombers Bar in an fleet. As you can probably tell, three days right after each other means that I’m enjoying them.

And how… Waiting for a kill can test your patience, but luckily the comms, both on their teamspeak and in fleet chat, are hilarious.
People talking, sending youtube videos, gifs,… It’s all good fun, a bunch of like minded people coming together for blingy kills and a chance to deliver torpedoes and/or bombs.

I like the fact that all of the people joining in fleet, lay down their differences (if there are any) and just kill everything that’s not purple, or at least try to. There were a few Ishtars that were both too fast and too tanky for us to take down.

The night went off to a slow start, we were waiting on a wormhole in Thera for the FC telling us that he had a target so that we could all warp to the wormhole, jump through, and take the black ops cyno that would be lit.

It took about an hour but right when we were planning on packing up, one of the scouts found a Nidhoggur, my third big kill in as many days and my second carrier ever. Which was pretty sweet.

Once we were done hunting ‘whales’ we went on to the system known as HED-GP, little did I know, but there was a pretty big battle on the way. The FC miss-timed it a bit, thinking that we had about 20 minutes for the reinforcement timer to run out, turned out it was more around an hour and 20 minutes.
So we went to a few safes, I grabbed some coffee, something to eat and waited for whatever it was that we were going to be doing, to start.

I was told that HERO (whoever that may be) and PL (I had heard about them before but only had a vague recognition) were going to have a fight over the station and we were going to bomb them.

I had no idea what that meant or who they were exactly but if it meant dropping bombs, I was all for it.
About 20 minutes before the timer went out local went from the 60 odd people (of which most were the BB fleet) to 150, and a bit later spiking even higher to 250.. Which according to the people on voice was only the beginning (yay).

I had turned on a stream on twitch showing the station and there was a fleet on the undock, while watching a bunch of bombers (apparantly goons) unstealthed and dropped bombs on them but I don’t think they hit much. We weren’t moving, we were going to go after the bigger targets.

“Oh look, I think it started!”

Once the fight started I listened to what we were told, listen to squad colors, warp to the leaders, etc etc..

I dropped three bombs in total, of which one hit (woops) .. They were telling us to allign to a certain target but inexperienced as I was I had no idea where it was so I just dropped my first and second bombs wherever and they kind of missed everything. How that even happened, I have no idea since it was pretty damn packed there.

“Bomb dropped, warp away, warp away!”

That was my third night in a Bombers Bar fleet, the third night in a row that I went to bed way past the hour that I should have gone in seeing as I had to go to work. But it was fun..

I’ll definately be doing a lot more of these, I love me some bombers.

note:
I had my first loss in a bomber last night, out on a roam with 16 people and we got baited. Guess that had to happen eventually, wouldn’t be right if my character kept having a clean killboard. No kills yesterday but did learn that I should make sure that I should just warp away when a fellow member decloaks me by accident.

Space Janitor, vacuum service

A while ago “This is EvE” launched, bringing about an influx of new players to Tranquility. One of these new players was my sister’s boyfriend. He knew I played EvE, saw the trailer, asked me for a referral and made his account.

I told him to do the tutorials and ask me if he had any problems, despite me not knowing much, I still know enough to help out a “newbro”.
After the tutorials he told me that he was enjoying the fact that he could mine and play other games at the same time. I had created.. A miner.

But a miner with a backstory. While talking to him he told me that it was quite fun, he was going out in space, looking for rocks to clean, like a janitor, cleaning up space for others to enjoy.

As many new players he had no idea what the difference was between null/low and high security space, so he just set out there, finding rocks and noticing that some people would pay more for the rocks he cleaned in 0.3 than those in 0.7.

So fitting up a venture he went out there and of course, got blown up, but that did not stop him no, he went out there again, and again. Wanting, needing those precious rocks, for his job was to make sure that other pilots could fly about, not having to worry about these things.

I applaud him for doing something I haven’t done in ages. That’s the way of the newbie. You just don’t know any better and go out there.

I gave him a few dozen ventures and a tanked retriever that he could work up to. If he enjoyed mining, why would I stop him from doing that, I had all those things in my hangar and wouldn’t miss them anyway.

We need miners and most people who play the game try out different things too, so I gave him a few exploring vessels as well in case he felt like making more ISK.

Although I did warn him that I myself know absolutely nothing about relic/data sites, he’ll figure it out eventually.

But right now, he’s a miner and enjoys it, I actually enjoy hearing him tell his own space adventures, despite them being about mining “The adventures of a space janitor” are entertaining. Especially when talking about all the millions of ISK he made. I can’t recall the last time I was happy with a “mere” ten million.

I wish I could go back to those days though.. They were a lot of fun too.

This gives me more ideas

Industry and Bombers

I’m getting better at scanning down the wormholes that connect our little hole to the rest of space. Which is nice, seeing as I used to hate scanning mainly because of how bad I was at it during the tutorial missions.

Which is really the one and only reason why I never decided to try again, despite knowing that back then my skills were not even close to being good enough for me to scan something “quickly”.. I’m relatively better at it, it only takes me about an hour and a half to get 13 sigs down, so that’s good… Right? Right?!

I’m slowly going through the BPC’s I have left from doing so much copying runs, I think I only have about 400-500 of them that I’ll try and turn into T2 ones. Or at least try to, I have an average succes rate of 75% inventions per 21 runs (I have 2 characters running inventions every day or so). After the invention process is done, I usually manufacture the T2’s, again, two characters so that means that every other day I have around 200-400 T2 items sitting in my headquarters ready to ship over to Jita. Which I do through courier contracts because I’m too lazy to go out there myself and it’s super cheap.

Once I have gone through my surplus of BPC’s I’ll have to check the market to try and figure out what’s needed, because right now I’m still working with a supply that started two years ago. As you can imagine, a lot changes in two years but I want that supply to be relatively gone before moving on to something else.
I do have a plan of what that something else might be, I just have to figure out if it’s a good one first before disclosing anything.

As for the other “adventures” I’m having, I’m enjoying W-space but am still checking for some other options, I currently own 3 combat characters, which gives me quite a few options.

What all three of my characters have in common though, is the fact that they can all fly covert ops ships, specifically bombers. I love bombers, the fact that you can sneak up on someone and drop a bomb or deliver a load of torpedoes on them is pretty awesome.

Which is why I finally did something yesterday that I’ve been meaning to do for quite some time. I joined a bombers bar run. Which I enjoyed, although I have to admit that it was rather boring at first.

I logged into the one character not in w-space only to be told that I needed to go to Thera, luckily I was only 12 jumps out from one of the high sec entrances so I burned towards it and someone in fleet was nice enough to give me a warp in to the wormhole.
After getting into Thera we were told to meet up somewhere and…Wait.

“Thera is pretty though”

Waiting is not something I enjoy, time spent waiting is time lost, while it is a precious commodity. But luckily the voice comms and the books I started reading a few weeks ago made sure that it wasn’t lost entirely, I was laughing along with the others and enjoying a good book until we were giving the go.

Which meant jumping through another wormhole where a black ops vessel was waiting for us to bridge us to our targets. Last night was a good night, I spend an hour or more “waiting” but those few kills that did happen were quite fun.
We first got a bridged right on top of a Legion, I was too late in getting there because the amount of bombers we had along with us meant that dmg was extremely high and it was down before most even knew it.

The second kill was a Legion too, another pilot that had no idea what was happening to him, a better kill too, he was worth a few more ISK and I did get to be on that killmail. After that we were told to ‘burn” back to our staging system. Once again we waited a bit before being dropped onto a Raven and Legion. We got the Raven but the Legion got away, and once more we burned back to the staging system.

During the burn a Paladin was spotted on one of the gates.

We were told to try and catch it, and catch it we did. I had nothing to do with the catch, but it was fun to watch. Burning to a Marauder that’s 100km away equiped with a microwarp drive is not something many people can do but it happened. After the point he was able to jump away again but our tackler had anticipated that move and was already 50km closer to the spot he was going to and was able to snare him immediately after.

The paladin did take a little while longer to kill (aprox 20-30 seconds) but he went down, and my pilot’s killboard went up by 2.8billion isk. Which means that right now, I’m sitting on a killboard of a few billion destroyed against nothing lost.

A good and fun night all in all. Missing those few hours of sleep was worth it, and I’ll definately do more of this.

“Another one today, Thanatos!”

Stay tuned! o7

Wormholes and New Year

A new year, a new beginning. Or at least that’s what a lot of people think about once a new year starts. It’s a time where most people make a few resolutions that 90% of them will keep up with for a few weeks and afterwards just forget about them. The biggest example would be where I go to the gym, the months January and February it becomes a bit crowded with all the people telling themselves they’ll get fitter in the new year and some keep up with it (I’m actually one of them) but most don’t.

Which is why I usually don’t make any resolutions and just see what happens. But for those of you who do! I wish you all the luck in keeping them, or at least most of them. 😉
I hope that all of you out there had a great evening, watches fireworks and had fun with friends and/or family. And that 2015 may bring you all the luck/isk/whatever it is you wish for.
And now for something EvE related.

It’s been a week since I last posted, what with Christmas and all that, I didn’t really feel like posting much and I’m pretty sure not many people would have felt like reading it so there’s that too.
Which doesn’t mean that I didn’t do anything in the game, I’ve actually been doing more than I have in the past few weeks, even months.
“To infinity, and beyond!”

As I said in my last part of the previous post, I was getting ready to move into a wormhole. Brushing up on scanning(which I still suck at albeit a bit less) and other things. One of which was browsing the character bazaar. The friend that I was joining told me that it wouldn’t be a bad idea to be able to fly a Tengu, seeing as the only T3 skills I have was for a Loki and I had ISK lying about not being used, I decided to buy myself a new alt. I made a pretty good deal, paid about 9 billion for a Tengu-alt while I saw others go for a few billion more so I’m pretty sure I got lucky.

After buying the alt I started the move, moving in bombers, buying a Tengu (still haven’t moved that one in) and checking up on Wormholes in general while wondering what use I’ll be to my friend.
We moved in to a C4 and I brought a few of my PI alts in so I could start PI in the wormhole, seeing that according to what I heard that’d make me a bit more of that precious passive ISK.
While doing this I noticed that one of the POCOS up, had a way too high tax rate. So I decided I wanted to shoot it down.. I did it before, I could do it again. After reading a bit (Foo’s musings on this helped) I figured that I would need enough dps and patience to do it and come back after 24 hours to do it some more.
“This’ll take a while”

Starting this last Tuesday at around 2pm was not one of my smartest decisions. Once we got the office down to 25% of the shields it would go into reinforced mode for about 24-48 hours. I had hoped on 24 hours, but unfortunately it was 34.. The timer would go down at 1am on January 1, while I and my corp mate would be out with friends/family.
Luckily my friends play games too, they don’t play EVE but at least they understood why I had my laptop along with me and had to log in at a bit before 1 to do an AFK bash.
After it started I went back to our food (so much of it!) and an hour later there was a nice little explosion, prompting me to put up our own little gantry.

I learned that next time I’ll need to bring more than just one Glass cannon Oracle and a bomber. Next time it’ll go faster.

As for my other days in WH space.. Let’s just say that I’m enjoying the things I’m learning and there will be plenty for me to talk about. Or at least, that’s what I’m hoping for.
