Live, learn, die, do it all again

War, huh, hah, what is it good for?

Well, I sure as hell don’t know other than Tidi.

It seems like I came back right around the time that Goons are at war with a bunch of New Eden once more. Nothing new here, happens every few years and provides content for the null blocs, good for them.

The only thing I know about it is that they dropped a LOT of titans on each other for the armor timer, and that when the hull timer arrived test was a bit late to the party and instead of jumping the whole fleet, there were a lot of issues with the servers and they just fed one titan after the other. Sucks for TEST but hey, that’s content for you.

I’ve lost one of my favorite ships to fly the other day, my good old Omen Navy Issue. Turns out I have no idea how to correctly fly this thing anymore and I got myself webbed and scrammed by a Praxis which had already killed a bifrost of one of my fleetmates a few seconds earlier.

https://zkillboard.com/kill/89767586/

Oh well, live and learn, I thought I could handle him, I didn’t.

The good thing however, is that we more than made up the loss later on in the evening. Including and not limited to this juicy, juicy pod. https://zkillboard.com/kill/89769609/

It’s fine girl, I still love you

I’m pretty sure the guy was accidentally still in the pod he was in when he lost his Hel. Either that or he has enough ISK to not give a damn that he’s flying a 5 bill pod in his Isthar, if that’s the case, good for him!

Another thing that happened where I was extremely lucky and taught a new lesson, was when trying to roll a hole.

Turns out that these days HICs have new modules that get their mass down, it no longer works with putting up all 4 bubbles, no you need the module now. I had a hole that was critical and decided to roll it with my good old trusty hic rolling fit. Lucky for me it didn’t collapse behind me in nullsec because as it turns out, my mass wasn’t anywhere near as low as I thought it was.

Lesson learned, time to bring the new modules in the hole too.

After not having played for so long it’s a bit confusing, there’s new ships, new fits, old fits that may or may not work. But it’s all fine, I know what to do.

Also, what happened to the captain’s quarter? I can’t find it anywhere!

I’m still a noob.

Goodbye 2020, you will not be missed.

There’s only one thing that I truly hope for 2021, and that’s that we can go outside more than we did last year.

I have been working from home since March, haven’t seen most of my friends since then either. One lockdown after the other here in Belgium, but we’ll get there eventually.
They finally started with the vaccinations, maybe by the summer I’ll be on the list. As a 32 year old I’ll be one of the last ones, which makes sense, those that are more vulnerable to this shit virus need priority.

Past few days I’ve been trying to figure out the way I used to make ISK again, only to come to the conclusion that I no longer have some of the required skills to even make T2 stuff anymore. Not that I really feel like doing manufacturing but I found a container with over 100 T2 bpc’s in it and figured that maybe I should just create them. That’s not happening.

I’ve put a few other things on contracts, found a bunch of cruiser BPO’s that I once bought and researched with the idea of selling them at some point, well, some point is there. I need the ISK to buy new ships to die in.

The market confused me for a bit, I was used to having an alt in jita and one in Amarr and then just sell stuff in Amarr from what I bought in Jita, but due to the whole gate dissapearing between the route, that’s no longer a viable option. I’m not willing to make those 50 ish jumps myself and definitely not paying for it. So I’m doing a bit of station trading in Jita itself.

In theory I should actually set the buy orders up in perimeter but.. I’m lazy

For now the trading is working well, I made about 2b in the past week, so that’s not too bad. I could probably make more but I’m not a big fan of keeping an eye on it. So I put up a few buy orders and then forget about them for a few days, only to then realise I should update them.

Most of the things I’m looking at right now is around a 10-15% margin, I could do more for slower moving items but they move too slow to my liking, don’t want to wait too long for buy orders to fill.

Other than that I’ve also started PI in the wormhole. It took a bit of messing and a lot of clicking but I think I got it going where it needs to be. Only thing I need to mess around with a bit more is the extractors, seeing that I’m not extracting enough in the cycle I put it on. But I can fix that one too by just doing it every few days instead of every week.

I literally have no idea how long this took me
T3 PI is fun

I’m enjoying EvE again, and that’s what matters. The things joining a corporation can do.

In the past few days I’ve lost on ship, a Nergal. I had no idea they existed until a week ago, luckily I had a bunch of SP saved up so I just injected myself in one. Just training the weapons to V now, gives me something to do other than training for a Nyx I will never fly. I avenged the nergal’s dead though by sacrificing a few TEST people to BOB

Speaking of Nyxes, look what I made!

I'm blue
I need to print more things, like this Nyx!

I’m trying to find excuses to use my 3D printer some more, finally printing a few EVE Online related things to put around the appartment.

I finally did it

The thing I have been talking and thinking about for the past couple of months (even years) has finally happened.

I have started playing again, actively.

The past few weeks I have been looking at /r/evejobs and wondering on whether or not I would find a group that I could join. One that I could have fun with and that I would fit into.

Well, sometime in the past 14 days I found what I was looking for, and now that I’m back home from a little time off in UK I am actively playing again. I’m scanning wormholes, joining fleets, and looking at people in Asteros from afar while in my cloaky Tengu.

As per usual I am a clueless noob and have no idea what I am doing.
I have come back into a game where a gate has dissapeared between Jita and Amarr, where my favorite interceptor (Crusader) is no longer nullified, where there are new ships and factions.

That said, Leshaks are pretty.

Leshak around the sun

The itch

The past couple of months have been the same as for everyone, COVID happened, I’m not allowed to go to work at the office anymore so have been working from home since februari, and I’m getting extremely bored being at home not doing anything.

I’ve tried so many games in the past couple of months but I’ve been getting the EvE itch again. It’s been roughly a year since I last played, more even. I still log on from time to time but the lack of goals or people to play with is stopping me from actually enjoying it.

But a few days ago I’ve been starting to get the itch again. The need to log on, to play, to explore the world.

The other day I tried out Albion again and a friend took me to the avalon roads or whatever it’s called there. It’s basically wormhole space but easy mode because you don’t have to scan for exits/entrances.

This has made the itch even harder to ignore. I logged on to my accounts, checked where all my assets were and poked a few people.

It’s time to come back, it’s been long enough.

A long, long time ago

I’m sure you guys know the rest, but if you don’t. It’s “In a galaxy far away”

Sometime around the same time I first started playing EvE Online I was also playing the SOE/Lucasart MMO called “Star Wars Galaxies”

Last week, when on the way to the gym a friend of mine reminded me of it and how much different it was compared to… Well any MMO on the market back then and even now.

Much like EvE it was a complete sandbox environment, you were the writer of your own story. Graphically it was shit but, well it was a game that launched in 2003 that didn’t have that many graphic updates. Quite a few content updates though, adding new items, new ways to play, instances etc.

Unlike to what I do in EvE, I never played any PvP in SWG. I was a trader, a class for the craftsmen. I made spaceship parts and sold them to people all over the server, taking custom orders etc. I even had a nice little shop customized for it.

The reason why I stopped playing SWG is not because I had a choice, it’s because EA had made a deal with lucasart for a new upcoming mmo called Star Wars: The Old Republic. They figured that it would not be good for their numbers to have two Star Wars mmo’s up and running so they had SWG shut down.

I don’t think that there were more than 15 000 people playing at that time, but it was a loss to all of us.

It’s been since 2011 that I have played that game, and whenever I started thinking about it I missed it quite a bit. But as it turns out there’s a few private servers out there, and my old guild is playing on that one. So last Saturday, I downloaded the client from steam (yes it’s still on there) and joined the private server.

The nostalgia is real and I’m quite enjoying myself. We’ll see how long that lasts.

Moving around

The joys of moving to and from wormholes. Always quite the adventure when you don’t have a great connection.

I’ve moved tens of billions of stuff through wormhole space in the past weeks, I have moved multiple times more than that in the past. Even going as far as moving around capital construction parts for one of the holes.

Despite having done all of that, it’s still something that “scares” me. Every single time I jump into a hole I feel like this would be the time when a bubble will pop up on me. It hasn’t happened, yet.

It will at some point, but when I get to where I need to be with everything intact, I usually let out a sigh of relief. Despite it being relatively safe because I scout for myself, it’s still quite the adrenaline rush.

I love wormhole space, just a shame that not more people enjoy it as much.

Eviction target

For those of you that, like me, have been living under a rock the past few days. Here’s some news for you.

Hard Knocks is getting evicted by Goonswarm.

I don’t know much about how and why but from what I gather is that The Initiative has been planning to do this for the past couple of month.

People are currently tuning in as the current biggest Wormhole corporation in EVE is getting evicted from their home hole. Something many people have thought impossible.

I have been in wormhole groups for the past couple of years and there’s always been a bit of a love/hate relationship when talking about HardKnocks. There’s no arguing that they did good, they were the first to build a keepstar in their home, are able to bring huge fleets and rent out C6 space.

Problem that most people have with it, is that there’s absolutely no way to fight a powerblock like that. None.

As a pilot that has always been in small wormhole corporations, the moment I rolled into rage I made sure that the whole chain got rolled. I never wanted anything to do with them being anywhere near me because it meant overwhelming numbers and losing my ships without ever having stood a chance.

The fact that they rent out the C6 space also meant that other corporations never really had a chance to set it up themselves. They’re basically to wormholes what null sec alliances do to null sec. Something I’ve already talked about in the past that I hate.

It’s a shame that this is a null sec alliance pushing them out. But let’s be real, no way in hell would us wormholers been able to make this happen. We do not have the resources, logistics or people to do this.

I’m curious what this means for the future of wormhole space. I just hope it won’t come and bite us all in the ass. I’d rather not have HK be replaced by a bunch of nullseccers.

Especially seeing that I am starting to log in once more.

GG CCP

Those of us that live in a wormhole are used to being left out by CCP or taken up the ass when it comes to people living in other parts of the EvE online universe.

We’re used to it, it’s been like that ever since people figured out that they could live in wormholes. But today truly is a dark day.

The people at CCP released a blog post concerning their newest addition to bending wormholers over a table and taking them up the ass without any lube.

https://www.eveonline.com/article/pf7gpi/october-balance-pass

If you’re not quite well versed with wormholes, it’s the bit where they talk about HIC changes.

When you live in a wormhole you have a one or two static connections, in order to close this one goes out to “roll” a hole. You know their approximate mass and you use a few battleships to close it. From time to time the battleships don’t cut it and the hole goes in a critical state.

Being critical means that it’s mass is less than 10% of it’s total mass. Meaning that it could be as high as 100m or as low as the mass of a capsule.

The good people living in wormholes figured out that in order to roll it faster, you could put a few bubbles on a HIC, activate them, which makes your mass less than that of a capsule, and then jump back inside their home using a prop mode. Usually closing the hole right behind them.

Not having this kind of thing to close a wormhole would make it hard for people living in them to find new content.

BUT! CCP in their current state doesn’t care one bit about the wormhole community.

Unfortunately, wormholers will be unwilling collateral damage, as they often are, due to the incredible usefulness of HICs for rolling holes. We may address this with a specific mass manipulation module at some point in the future but want to move forward on fixing this broken behavior as fast as possible.

Translation: “We know you guys use and kind of need this for your playstyle but sucks to be you”

It’s a damn shame really, a lot of people are already commenting on reddit about all of this. I’m curious to what will happen.

But I doubt anything good will come out of it.

The fact that almost the whole CSM consists of Goons and nobody that actually lives in a wormhole isn’t that great… Who would have thought..

New Design!

I’ve been helping out my mother with a new design for her site and decided I should update my own.

So now that happened too!

Things are a work in progress still. And I’m still building a house too.

Have to say that buying a Mavic Air drone was one of the best decisions I made this year.

Searching for a way forward

I logged on the other day, because I was poked by a friend of mine about something that was said about the state of wormholes.

His poke reminded me of the game once more, about the fact that I miss it. And that I’m not playing it right now.

I hate not playing actually, I hate not having a place in the game right now. No friends to log on with, nobody to play with.

Because EvE in a whole, is the most fun when playing it with the people you know, with people you like hanging out with. It’s also one of the only communities that has made me a few lasting friendships.

Luckily I still play games with some of the people I met in EvE, but every few weeks I think on the game, and have this wish to come back to it. But without an idea on how to go at it.

There’s multiple factors at play in this. I don’t want to do anything in Null sec, at all. I hate sov wars I hate the blocks and I absolutely loathe the fact that most people I have seen in null sec are afraid to do anything unless they have 10 times the numbers of the other team.

I’ve tried roughly 3 or 4 different null sec coorporations, the only guys that weren’t like that, are the ones that lived in NPC space, they didn’t care, they were fun to play with and I had a lot of fun hanging out with them on TS.

Unfortunately they went to SOV space and I have no idea what they’re up to now, maybe I should poke someone again, see what they’re up to.

I’m still in w-space right now though, having joined a friend’s russian friends. I’ve had a few fun encounters with them, but mostly don’t log on because of the language barrier. Which is a shame.

Well, that and the fact that the other guys that joined along with me aren’t actively playing anymore either.

The joys that are life and work.

Having typed this. I think I’m going to poke a few people. See if I can shift some things around. Try and become semi-active once more.

Not that there’s many people reading out there, but if you think you have something that could interest me, poke me. For the love of Bob poke me!
