Roaming nullsec

Tonight, is a good day to die..
Unless you go roam in Providence, because they don’t want to fight.

Or at least that’s how it felt the other day.

The evening started as any other, checking if the corporation or alliance were up to something. Just minutes after logging we were asked to get into one of our doctrines, a citadel was going to come out of reinforcement and we were going to come help and defend it, because supposedly people were going to come out and kill it.

After getting into our ships, moving out of the chain and into highsec, we burned to destination, where the rest of the fleet was waiting. We had about 50+ people in fleet so it was going to be a good fight.

But unfortunately nothing happened, the attackers supposedly saw our fleet and decided that they didn’t want a fair fight.

That was quite unfortunate but that’s the way EvE works, sometimes you get people to kill, other times you get blueballed.

So the next plan was going out on a little roam across Providence, we’re red to them, so we figured that we could get a fight out of them. But before doing this, we went a few jumps further.

Someone knew of a group that was helping a bunch of new players get their first steps in wormhole space. And it was agreed upon that we’d go drop on them. Our FC was going to reimburse the newbie’s ships but it would give them a feel of getting dropped on. Seeing that in w-space you’re supposed to be prepared to at all times have someone de-cloak on you.

We killed about 5 of them, and supposedly they loved it. They must have had a major adrenaline rush going on, I know I would have. It definitely made me smile, knowing that these guys loved the fact that we killed them, instead of being salty about it. Newbro’s are great like that.

I have killmarks!

I have killmarks!

After this, we lost a few people due to the fact that it was a bit late and a workday, I on the other hand took a day off so I could go on for a little while longer.

Ready to go

Ready to go

We decided to reship into remote repping battleships and go to Providence, we’d lose the ships but hopefully get a few good fights out of it.

Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, not even close. We jumped around providence for 2 or 3 hours, the only thing we were able to kill a Crane. Here we were, hoping to die, and Providence did absolutely nothing, I’m hoping that it was both due to the late hour and it being a weekday. But still.

These days null seems to not want to fight, either docking up and waiting until we leave, or logging off.

So for those of you in null-sec reading this. Please, please don’t dock up, get your friends, form a defence fleet, and have a brawl. It’s a lot more fun than ratting, I know, I’ve been on the other side.

PvP is starting to grow on me

I started updating orders again, because I’m in need of ISK, and I’ve been too busy losing ships in null sec to get some PvE going. Thus I went to Jita, put up a few buy orders and hope for the best.

Of course, outside the buy orders I’m also doing a bit of PI. As I’ve said in a previous post, PI is a great way for passive income, I currently have a setup of 10 planets across 2 characters in the wormhole which should get me about 700m a month, updating it once a day, and hauling it every other week or so. Which is a nice amount for minimal effort.

Outside the need of ISK, I am starting to feel a need for kills. It was a bit slow the previous 3 days, we didn’t get many targets, but there were a few good ones in the past week. Which is fun, I’m starting to not hate losing ships. And that’s the whole point of all of this.

Today was a bit funny, our nullsec was close to a miner system, so we went there, saw a bunch of procurers on scan and went out to look for them.

We found a few, killed a few, and went out to the next system.

Now, killing a procurer isn’t that hard in PvP ships, finding them when you already killed a few of them, makes things a bit harder. What made it a fun roam was the fact that when we jumped back in the system, just to see if they would come back. We jumped to ore sites, large, enormous, and as soon as I landed, I noticed two of them on my d-scan, coming closer to me.

Not only, did they just wait a few minutes, they warped right on top of me. And my corps mate who warped to another belt, had the same thing happen to him.

We had that happen twice in the same few systems. Unfortunately they didn’t give us a fight. It’s not like we want to kill miners, we want fights. Good fights.

We were hoping that if we caught one and held it for a few minutes they might come and play. But unfortunately, that didn’t happen.

We did harvest a few tears though.

tears

He obviously didn’t get that we wanted an actual fight. But some people don’t fight, and I get that. It had taken me years before I got into PvP.

I’m doing well, and enjoying my time in the wormhole and the corporation.

Boom goes the ship

I lost one of my favorite ships in the whole game last Sunday, a Machariel. It’s one of my favorite ships because it’s the first one I fully mastered (by doing level 4’s in it shhh) and it’s just super pretty.

Luckily, I also killed a few ships so it kind of evens out.

One of the places I live in with one of my alts, well… my main actually, is NPC null. Stain even (I don’t know names that well but do remember this one, and I’m sure you guys will know better than me).

NPC null is one of the stepping stones into the other null secs, you have stations, there’s a bunch of corporations and alliances, and you don’t need standings to dock, which means you can just put yourself somewhere and be on your merry way, coming back if you need repairs etc. It’s handy and you don’t have those silly Null alliance politics going on. Or people telling you to dock when there’s a neut in local because there’s a bunch of neuts in local almost all the time.

Back to how I lost the ship though. Due to the benefits of null, from time to time other groups decide to come and take up some territory. This is now the case with a few Russian corporations, taking down towers of our allies etc. Sunday was one of those days in which two of our towers was going to be coming out of reinforcement. We made a defense fleet and went out to meet the attacking fleet.

It was fun, despite the fact that the other guys played a game with us, warping off to another ping when we landed, going back and forth etc. We always were able to catch a few stragglers.

Them doing this only meant one thing, they were stalling. Getting a few more people on field. We knew this, and despite knowing this, we didn’t run. Because this was content, and we were getting kills.

So when all of a sudden bubbles started popping up around us, we weren’t that surprised. Our FC kept himself cool, calling out targets etc etc. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to escape the bubbles on time. Despite our logi trying hard to save most of us, they couldn’t quite keep up.

I don’t mind, I had a good time and some good fights. The fact that we now have a few new neighbours only means one thing.

More good fights in the future 😉

My first ever

Yesterday was a good day and a bad day. Bad, since I lost another ship. My fourth, well fifth, since moving to null. Which, I guess isn’t all that much if you look at it.

Good, because I had my first ever solo kill. Yay! And it was a bit of an accidental one too.

I’m building up a little moon goo empire in Null, meaning that currently I have 6 towers working for me. Which is nice since it’s some sort of passive income generation like PI. Only thing I need to do is make sure that there’s no people stealing it, and that it’s fueled/emptied on a monthly basis.

I currently try it on a bi-weekly basis because I can. And means just a little less ISK in the Occator.

So, while getting my monthly supply of fuel, I was scouting for my hauler and saw a Helios at 10km from the gate. I figured that he would warp off but that did not happen, so I locked the Helios, burned towards him and started shooting. I can only guess that they were AFK, I didn’t even have a scram fitted. But I don’t care, I got a kill! Also got the pod but that one was worthless.

About 10 minutes before I had gotten the pod of someone whose ship was just destroyed by someone in the alliance. So another lucky kill there.

After the fuel run I was asked to join on a quick little roam. I was planning on going to bed early, but, that didn’t really happen.

So I reshipped to my Cynabal Mark II and went on my way to the wormhole we were going to use to get to a more target rich environment.

It started of nicely with two Cerberus, a Vexor and Caracal kills. When we did that and jumped around the systems some more they decided to try and stop us, getting together a little 12 man fleet. We jumped on an Armageddon but when going to the next system they were waiting on us. There were only 6 of us so we couldn’t handle that…yet.

We went back to our own system, called in some more people and decided to see if we could get them to make a fleet to stop us again. On paper we would do pretty well, but unfortunately one of our logi pilots was pretty new at doing what he was supposed to do and was out of rep range for most of us when the fight started. Partly due to miscommunication and just not paying enough attention.

Suffice to say that I lost Cynabal Mark II. But not to worry, Mark III is ready for action.

I won the ISK war last night, killing more than I lost, so I’m happy.

So much to do, so little time

The wheels of my inner mind have been working overtime in the past few days on what I will be doing in EvE the coming weeks. Not because I’m bored and have nothing to do, no, it’s the exact opposite. I have no idea where to start this time.

Since joining the corporation I currently fly with I finally have things to do. I’m finally going out on roams, plan on new things etc etc.

I lost a ship the other day. The third one in a few weeks. And I don’t mind as much as I used to when losing something. Why? Because I’m having fun that’s why!

And that’s the whole point isn’t it, you’re supposed to have fun flying the ships you fly, instead of worrying about losing them. I’m starting to finally learn this lesson, it took me a while, and dozens of different corporations but I’m getting there.

Other than roams I’m having one of my alts train for jump freighters. The one thing I don’t like about the place I currently live in is the lack of a market. So I decided to finally put all of my liquid ISK to use and set up a market over there. Or at least try to.

I just need to figure out which items to stock. I think I’ll start with the corporation doctrines and work my way up from there. I already have a bunch of buy orders in place in Jita. Now I just need to figure out the logistics of the place.

I’ve also set up my PI in one of the systems and was lucky enough to recruit a few people into shooting down the Interbus POCO’s still left in the system. I honestly don’t get why these guys are not doing any PI over there, I found three Plasma planets within our little pipe. So I was confused when I saw the Interbus POCO’s still there. Oh well, I helped them set up new POCO’s, paid for them out of my own pocket and everything. In the long run it’ll be more interesting for me anyhow with a lower tax rate.

And last but not least, I took over a bunch of Moon mining POS’. I have no idea how it works and how much they’re going to make me, or cost me. But it’ll be an interesting little experiment. Although I’m 90% sure that I’ll be making a profit off them once the month is done. Unless someone decides to shoot them down that is.

All of this, happening because I finally decided to make friends instead of staying in my own little corporation. I’m glad I got out of my little bubble.

And I’m curious to what will come next.

I’m getting there

Last week I finally joined a new corporation, and the past few days I’ve gotten more action than I did in the past few months.

I’ve gone on roams, I made a jita shopping list, even tried out ships I had never flown before.

I’ve been on two roams now in a Svipul and I enjoy the ship. I love the fact that it changes it’s look if you go in a different mode and it’s quite fun. Not only that, I haven’t lost one yet! Hooray

Svipul Roam

I did lose a claw a few days ago but that was my own fault. Silly me trying to be hero tackle. That obviously failed because I also failed to land on any other kill mail at the time.

The one thing I still need to get used to is that unlike when I was in High Sec, I can’t just open the market browser and buy whatever I need. I can’t, because the current market is non-existent. The corporation I joined does have a service from Jita to their home so that’s nice. Means I just need to make more shopping lists and figure out what I need and when I’ll be needing it.

Although it did got me thinking of maybe, just maybe setting up shop over there too. I’ll be looking into that once I’m used to it some more.

Unfortunately my ISK making ways have dried out a bit. My production lines are currently not doing anything because the profit I was making per day wasn’t enough anymore. 20million a day vs 100+ half a year ago. It’s a shame, it was easy ISK, and now I have no idea what to do to make more of it.

I’m trying my hand at station trading in Jita and Amarr a bit and I’m making ISK with it, but also only a few million per time, my production used to net me more. So I’ll have to figure out something new. Maybe in Null, maybe somewhere else.

I’m still thinking of w-space, and I’m looking around, I still have another combat character that I’m training to get into a wormhole, so maybe I can have her join a wormhole crew. If they’ll have me.

We’ll see

Job interviews aren’t as hard

Finding a corporation to join in EvE Online, is a pain in the ass. Or at least it is for me. Why? Because I want to find the best fit that I can have, and that means checking out a LOT of corporations and having a LOT of conversations and mailing go back and forth.

And even when you finally figure out that you want to join a certain one, someone else invites you to have a little conversation and you start thinking “Oh, wow these guys could be it too”.

One of usSource: Control Alt Delete comic

Not only that, but even if you then finally figure out which people you like best, you get interviewed by them too. This all made me think of a CAD comic from some time ago. It describes the process vs other MMO’s quite well. Even to the part of the blood sample, although I’m sure they were kidding about that one… *shifty eyes*

This was how I spent most of my day yesterday and the day before.

I made a post on the forums, stating that I was in need of a new corporation, new friends and what I was looking for.

Turns out, what I’m looking for is too general and that made sure that I was not only contacted by the kind that I was looking for, but also by people who did mostly mining.

I wondered where in my post I ever defined that I wanted to mine but turns out that some people define ‘Industry’ as mining. Who knew, I sure didn’t.

For those of you out there that do define this as mining, I get where you’re coming from, but it’s not, not really. My definition of industry as a whole would be the invention and/or manufacturing of the products, not really getting the raw material that you need to make them. Processing could work too but mining is just that, mining.

Anyhow, after two days of getting mails, having conversations etc etc, I finally decided to apply to one. I gave them my api key and am currently waiting to be accepted or denied.

I’m leaning towards the first, seeing as I don’t think I look like a spy, I’d probably suck at it anyhow.

If I do get accepted, I’ll be going back to Null sec, give them another shot, I really hope that this time will be different. What I talked about with the Corporation’s CEO was positive, even their public channel was active and fun so, fingers crossed.

I still have a wish to go to w-space though. So I decided that I’m going to have my alt join another corporation, one that one of my readers joined a while back and sounds like fun. The alt isn’t that well trained and still has a ways to go, but I’m sure I can have fun in w-space as well as null sec. Best of both worlds I guess/hope.

We’ll see what happens

“Do you wanne build a moon base”

I’m sorry if you now have a certain ‘Frozen’ song in your head… Ok no, I’m not, I like the songs, most people do.

Anyhow, these past few months I haven’t done much industry wise, but a friend of mine asked me if I was interested in his latest little scheme. I told him I had to think about it after his explanation and the more I started thinking about it, the better it seemed to sound.

Basically, I was asked if I wanted to join him in null sec with my indy character and start moon harvesting with him, and slowly but surely, start on our own little super/titan building process.

I’ve always wanted to build titans but not on my own, so if this thing actually happens, I’ll be a few steps closer to my goal. Along with the fact that I’ll be a bit more active again. So win/win situation! Unless we lose a few freighters, that’d make us go back to square one, but I’m being positive here, I can do this!

Failed once more

You win some, you lose some. And these days I’ve been on a losing streak when it comes to trying out new things.

As some of you know I was searching for a null sec corporation to join but didn’t really like the idea of CTA’s. And there’s a good reason for it. In general whenever I read about null, I don’t really like what I see. And my latest experiment only showed me that my gut feeling wasn’t wrong.

Please note, that in this blog I might seem extremely negative towards the people I joined. However this is negativity towards null sec and the mindset towards it. The people I joined were actually extremely friendly and fun to chat with. The mindset of the alliance however, was not something for me. You’ll see why.

I joined a null sec corporation/alliance about a week and half ago. In that time I haven’t done much at all. Not because I didn’t want to, but due to silly rules and the fact that I didn’t want to be on TeamSpeak.

The people in the corporation were nice when I said hi in the chat, I immediately got some help in getting set up with a ratter, told where to find contracts for their pvp doctrines etc. etc.
It didn’t take long until I was ready in a Dominix to blow some rats and earn some isk. Once I undocked, I went on to one of the anomalies, released my sentries and got ready to blap. Not 5 minutes after undocking I noticed that people in corp were asking me why I wasn’t on coms. Prepare for ‘Strike one’

For my job I tend to have a a lot of meetings during the day, where I listen to people talk about what needs to be done, and where I tell other people what’s going to be done. This happens in live meetings seeing that I’m in Belgium, and the other people are all over the world.
Wearing a headset gives me a headache due to me not enjoying noise much since I had an accident few years ago. So when I get home, I don’t really want to get on voice coms unless I join a fleet because you do need some coordination and just typing isn’t going to give you fast enough reaction times. But not when I’m just out ratting.

That was my first mistake, figuring that people wouldn’t need me to be on coms because there was nothing going on. But for some strange reason people are so afraid of losing ships that I needed to be on coms so they could warn me if somebody came through to our systems.

Somebody.. Not a fleet, no, just one person, one guy/girl who isn’t part of the alliance or it’s blues and I was expected to dock up.
In the few minutes that they explained this to me I had cleared one wave of the rats, and then, as luck would have it, a neutral turned up in local. One lonely guy, probably just moving around in null a bit, but they told me to dock up, because who knows, he might be part of a bigger fleet, or drop a cyno on me.

Strike two.

If someone were to drop a cyno, on my 250m ratting Dominix just for that kill, I’d smile and tip my hat to him/her. I really didn’t understand what the big deal was for one neutral, but I docked up and seethed slightly, wondering what I would do in the meanwhile. There was no talk about hunting the intruder down, it was better to wait it out.
After that I logged out for the weekend, not wanting to log back in. When I logged back in on Sunday evening, I had about 10-20 EvEmails about CTA’s. I didn’t really bother reading them because most of those were at times that I had better things to do.

Yesterday, my friend joined in an operation with them. A big fleet was going to go out on a roam looking for fights. Turned out that my friend, due to the fact that he could only fly an inty, he was expected to just make pings, wasn’t even allowed to join in on the fight.

Strike three.. All of these things, are the reason why I flew back to Jita an hour ago.

I know that highsec “carebears” are something that null sec people like to laugh with. But isn’t ratting thesame? If you dock up as soon as a stranger comes into your system, doesn’t that make you worse than the carefree bear that doesn’t care.

Null sec might be fun for some people, but not for me. I’d rather see some action or do new things. So on to the next project.. I’m going to go back to exploring wormhole space, but from my own little hub. We’ll see what happens.
Wormhole space was entertaining because you only see who’s with you, once they uncloak right on top of you. It seems like I like the way that works.

Plans and Decisions

Last Saturday I spent a few hours making a spread sheet about my invention. Not even all kinds of invention but the invention of 1 kind of item. I’m hoping that said item will bring me a nice profit in a few weeks once I’m done creating copies of my Blueprint Original.

Seeing that you need Blueprint copies to invent them into T2 copies.

The reason why this took me a few hours is because of the fact that I had to make a list containing all the products I need for the invention and creation of this. Then I had to breakdown said list into all the raw material I would need for this.

After doing that I remembered that I already had a bunch of material around somewhere so I had to put those into my calculations too. And let’s just say that it’s been awhile since I had to test my math skills. For some reason I came to amounts of 5m ISK more than I should have, but I accidentally multiplied somewhere instead of making a sum and well, it took me a bit to find said error.

Along with all of this I also made a few additions to my POS. I added a few extra labs for more copies and I asked a friend if he wanted to join me in my little venture. I bet that if it were in any way possible, he would have had ISK signs in his eyes. But that’s a good thing, it’s more fun if you work with multiple people on a project.

And speaking of projects, I have decided to say farewell to null sec. I had tons of fun there but it just wasn’t my cup of tea. Logging in, hoping for a fight and having to wait because fleet command was going to take dreads out first while I was sitting there in my little cruiser was not something I liked. Despite getting a bunch of fun fights, they were too spread out for me to stay there.

So I went back to High Sec and am currently sitting in my Machariel wondering what to do.
I’ve been thinking about maybe going to Low Sec. I just need to find someone willing to take me in. A Noob with little experience in PvP. Because, let’s face it. The only reason why I survived so many fights is because I followed people around and was pretty lucky most of the times.

A few days I went on a Talwar roam, my last roam with the alliance I was in and after a few hours I decided to head home. I have no idea how, but I was able to get past a gate camp in my Talwar with about 80% hull left. That’s what happens if you go home alone, instead of breaking up gate camps, you are their victim.
“Breaking up a party”

Lucky for me everyone had engaged me so nobody could jump after me to finish the deal. So I made it home safely, only to put the destroyer back on contract, grab myself a Claw and head 22 jumps back to my High Sec home.

I guess I’ll be running missions while I wait for something to drop in my lap.
Or maybe I should go out searching actively, if only I knew what it is I want.

Guess time will tell
