FC, should we jump too?

Yesterday was the second time I played FC. Although maybe we shouldn’t count the first one, since it wasn’t that long one but still.

I’m still new at all this. Doing it to make sure that I, and the others, have something to do. So called content creation.

It basically started with us going through our null sec static in cruisers. I told them that we might die, so what do my fleet members do? Undock in cruisers like a Gila and Orthrus’, because you know, if you’re going out, might as well do it in style.

Seeing as I am not quite that experienced, and I never cared about null sec politics or null sec in general, I had no idea that an area like Syndicate is dead.
So dead in fact that most of the systems we jumped in were empty.
Mistake number one. But, so be it, we had a wandering hole that led to another null.
Figured we’d go poke around in there.

It was a frigate sized hole so we did have to reship, I called for interceptors or other frigate sized ships, so we went there with a few interceptors, a sabre and a magus.

This time we were in Fountain. Turns out Fountain is filled with people that do not want to fight. They just dock up as soon as a neutral is close, which is a shame.

While I was checking Dotlan on what system to jump to, I of course jumped every once in a while without telling my fleet to do so. Mistake number two.
Which basically meant that every few jumps I had the question “FC, should we jump in too?” followed with a few laughs, since all in all it’s funny to poke on the FC right?

They even made a deal that if we didn’t find anything they could kill me. I did not agree to this but I wasn’t asked for my opinion. You see what I had to work with here.

Luckily for me and my, oh so expensive interceptor, we eventually found something. The Magus pilot had a Drake on d-scan, and found him ratting in an asteroid belt (I know right). Once he called point the fleet warped in and made sure they had him pointed too. Me, being the eager fc was already two systems further so I scrambled back, while being happy that something was caught.

As you can imagine, with a few interceptors and a sabre, it can still take a while to break a Drake’s tank. Which gave him enough time to call for help in local. Not that any was forthcoming. “Guys, help, I’m in asteroid belt x, there’s 5 of them”

Even with that intel not much happened. A jackdaw did land on us, but unfortunately for him we were eager for kills so he was pointed and killed quite fast.

Not long after that we killed the Drake and his pod. The loot going to our Magus pilot. Hooray! Kills.

Onwards to the next few systems. So we went on, only to find a gate camp, the Drake and Jackdaw’s friends. Good thing we were in inties. Or at least, most of us. We did lose our Sabre, and I thought that was it.

FC was bad. I figured our Magus pilot was following us too, but turns out he wasn’t there yet. So about 10 minutes after we had gotten past the camp, he got killed. In hindsight, I should have made sure that everyone was there, I should not have taken the gate, or at least told the Sabre and Magus pilot to turn around. Seeing that we couldn’t take a 20 man T3 destroyer camp with just our little fleet.

But so be it, live and learn. I’ll do better next time, and next time I’ll know that I should reroll the static if we come out in Syndicate or Fountain.

I had my fun, and I’m 85% sure that the rest of the guys had fun too. So operation success

Let’s go fishing

I learned something new the other day. Which, surprise surprise, can happen every once in a while.

Well two things but we already knew about the first one so that didn’t count. Let’s talk about that first.

Waiting on a hole before doing something. Don’t do that, just, don’t.

We have a few scouts in certain holes, holes of people we want to play with.

Are we doing phrasing?

The other day, one of our exits was about 4 jumps from our “friends” so we decided to go pay them a visit. We put up a fleet and went towards their entrance, having most of the fleet wait one jump out, and the tackle on the hole. The plan was basically for me and our Lachesis to warp in, point an Ishtar and Megathron, and poke them into fighting us.

Where we missed, is that we were waiting for too long. Their scout had just jumped into the system, and warped to his entrance, right as we were landing on it, he landed to. I’m going to guess their comms were something along the lines of “Guys! There’s stuff coming to scram you, get the fuck out now!”

As soon as we saw it was one of theirs, we jumped in and warped to the site, only to land and have the Ishtar warp off right in front of our noses. We stuck around for a few minutes hoping to get a fight, but they knew we had Logi waiting for us, so that didn’t really work out the way we planned. Oh well, can’t do much about that. So off we were, on to the home system to go roam null-sec.

In our null-sec roam, I learned how to spearfish. For those of you that don’t know what it is, it’s the use of Command Destroyers and their jump portals, to warp someone away from their fleet. You use two of them, one to jump in, and one to jump out again. Bringing you, your fleet, and your target, 100km away from their buddies.

Which is actually quite fun to do. Especially if they don’t see it coming, which honestly, you should. If you see two Bifrost’ come at you, you ball up, easy as that.

So we did our little fleet jump, caught a Typhoon, who’s friends existed of about 8 Domi’s, but seeing as he was over 10km away from them, we were able to catch him off guard.

pew pew

They had a crow and a Tengu that came in to help him, it was no use. We almost killed the Tengu too but had to get out because the null-sec corporation had undocked a carrier. And as most of you know, carriers hurt quite a bit.

Oh! And I got another kill mark on my Gila! That’s number 4! Hooray!

Ship ahoy, or something like it

“Ahoy mateys, we’ve got targets ahead.”

Or at least that’s what I was thinking when scanning the chain, seeing a bunch of retrievers on D-scan and jumping 100 off the only ore site, only to find them warping in.

It’s always fun when you have people warp in right when you get there, means you’ve got people to kill. Or to kill you I guess.

As soon as I saw the retrievers I logged onto E’dyn and grabbed my Sabre, while asking the few others online if they were up to killing them.

About twenty minutes later, we had a little fight going on. I did lose my Sabre but all in all, we came out ISK positive, and that’s what we like seeing.

2016.07.25.19.16.53

One of the miners we killed came back in a Cerberus and the other in a Stratios. Luckily we had a tanky hurricane with us that could take them on, if only for a while.

It was a first for me, seeing as I hadn’t killed someone in a wormhole for quite some time, and this was the first time I found the targets myself.

Yesterday was another first for me, the first time I played FC. Before starting I warned the others to go in ships that they wouldn’t mind losing. Seeing as I obviously have no idea what I’m doing.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get any kills other than an MTU (Yay us)! But it was good practise, and you have to start somewhere.

If any of you feel like joining us in our little adventures, join up the Y4CHT channel ingame, come and say hi. We’re friendly, I promise

Roaming nullsec

Tonight, is a good day to die..
Unless you go roam in Providence, because they don’t want to fight.

Or at least that’s how it felt the other day.

The evening started as any other, checking if the corporation or alliance were up to something. Just minutes after logging we were asked to get into one of our doctrines, a citadel was going to come out of reinforcement and we were going to come help and defend it, because supposedly people were going to come out and kill it.

After getting into our ships, moving out of the chain and into highsec, we burned to destination, where the rest of the fleet was waiting. We had about 50+ people in fleet so it was going to be a good fight.

But unfortunately nothing happened, the attackers supposedly saw our fleet and decided that they didn’t want a fair fight.

That was quite unfortunate but that’s the way EvE works, sometimes you get people to kill, other times you get blueballed.

So the next plan was going out on a little roam across Providence, we’re red to them, so we figured that we could get a fight out of them. But before doing this, we went a few jumps further.

Someone knew of a group that was helping a bunch of new players get their first steps in wormhole space. And it was agreed upon that we’d go drop on them. Our FC was going to reimburse the newbie’s ships but it would give them a feel of getting dropped on. Seeing that in w-space you’re supposed to be prepared to at all times have someone de-cloak on you.

We killed about 5 of them, and supposedly they loved it. They must have had a major adrenaline rush going on, I know I would have. It definitely made me smile, knowing that these guys loved the fact that we killed them, instead of being salty about it. Newbro’s are great like that.

I have killmarks!

I have killmarks!

After this, we lost a few people due to the fact that it was a bit late and a workday, I on the other hand took a day off so I could go on for a little while longer.

Ready to go

Ready to go

We decided to reship into remote repping battleships and go to Providence, we’d lose the ships but hopefully get a few good fights out of it.

Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, not even close. We jumped around providence for 2 or 3 hours, the only thing we were able to kill a Crane. Here we were, hoping to die, and Providence did absolutely nothing, I’m hoping that it was both due to the late hour and it being a weekday. But still.

These days null seems to not want to fight, either docking up and waiting until we leave, or logging off.

So for those of you in null-sec reading this. Please, please don’t dock up, get your friends, form a defence fleet, and have a brawl. It’s a lot more fun than ratting, I know, I’ve been on the other side.

The joys of d-scan

The one thing you should always do when living in a wormhole. Is use d-scan. It’s important to use that in low and null sec too since it helps you find targets. But in wormholes you don’t have local. So you use d-scan to check if there’s anyone around with you. Of course a person using a ship with a cloak won’t show up on d-scan, and a recon ship won’t either. But still, it gives you a bit of a warning if you pay attention to it.

We all know this, my corporation mates know this. All this, kind of goes wrong when you’re in a group. Seeing that being in a group usually means, being a bit more secure. Thus you stop caring much about something, especially when waiting. That’s what happened yesterday.

We were going to go out on our daily null-sec roam. Forming up on our null-static and waiting for the rest to join. Now, usually when forming up, we’re in the citadel and ready to go. Not this time, we were waiting for a few guys to log in, right on the hole. For over 20 minutes.

I’m sure that me talking about d-scan a bit higher makes you go “Ooooh, I think I know what happened.”

Right when we’re about to jump through, three sabres pop up right on top of us. Most of us were not quite aware of what was happening so when you then hear the fc jump and get the fuck out. You do just that.

Or at least try to. We lost three ships before we even got in null, in our own wormhole. Hard knocks found us and used our lulled sense of security to get a few kills.

Good fight on them, we were not prepared, not even close, we got our asses kicked. Well, the other guys, I got out of the bubble and was able to warp off. Hooray, still have my Omen.

The moral of the story? Use your d-scan.2016.07.16.21.18.24

PvP is starting to grow on me

I started updating orders again, because I’m in need of ISK, and I’ve been too busy losing ships in null sec to get some PvE going. Thus I went to Jita, put up a few buy orders and hope for the best.

Of course, outside the buy orders I’m also doing a bit of PI. As I’ve said in a previous post, PI is a great way for passive income, I currently have a setup of 10 planets across 2 characters in the wormhole which should get me about 700m a month, updating it once a day, and hauling it every other week or so. Which is a nice amount for minimal effort.

Outside the need of ISK, I am starting to feel a need for kills. It was a bit slow the previous 3 days, we didn’t get many targets, but there were a few good ones in the past week. Which is fun, I’m starting to not hate losing ships. And that’s the whole point of all of this.

Today was a bit funny, our nullsec was close to a miner system, so we went there, saw a bunch of procurers on scan and went out to look for them.

We found a few, killed a few, and went out to the next system.

Now, killing a procurer isn’t that hard in PvP ships, finding them when you already killed a few of them, makes things a bit harder. What made it a fun roam was the fact that when we jumped back in the system, just to see if they would come back. We jumped to ore sites, large, enormous, and as soon as I landed, I noticed two of them on my d-scan, coming closer to me.

Not only, did they just wait a few minutes, they warped right on top of me. And my corps mate who warped to another belt, had the same thing happen to him.

We had that happen twice in the same few systems. Unfortunately they didn’t give us a fight. It’s not like we want to kill miners, we want fights. Good fights.

We were hoping that if we caught one and held it for a few minutes they might come and play. But unfortunately, that didn’t happen.

We did harvest a few tears though.

tears

He obviously didn’t get that we wanted an actual fight. But some people don’t fight, and I get that. It had taken me years before I got into PvP.

I’m doing well, and enjoying my time in the wormhole and the corporation.

Everyone loves explosions

We do, even if you don’t want to be near one in real life, we all love looking at fire. It’s entrancing.

I blew up my first citadel the other day. Well, not just me, we had a fleet of course. But I did not see the explosion coming. I had no idea about it, and it was amazing.

I’ll just let you see for yourself in the few screenshots I made.

I did lose another hound this weekend. I need to stop flying squishy ships, which is why I bought an Omen and a Gila and brought them inside the wormhole. I have a bunch of other ships on my “Get them inside” list but I need to start earning ISK again because I only see my total dropping.

The fact that PLEX prices are way down since last time is not helping at all. I have 11 PLEX parked in Jita that I bought when they were at 1.2b a pop. So that’s currently little over 3b loss just on those. Maybe I should use them to get extractors instead. I heard that they are a nice moneymaker. But that’s for another post.

Enjoy the fire!

Bringing the party outside

One of the little things you learn to like about wormholes is the fact that every day, you’ll have a connection to somewhere else. Somewhere new to explore, meet the locals, and kill them.

The other day was one of those days. Having asked what we should do we decided to fleet up and go on a little roam in our Null-connection. It wasn’t too fruitful, I’m pretty sure we scared off the locals, they weren’t used to meeting new people.

We found a few people hanging around in space but they had a bubble around them or were on their way to somewhere else. A shame, we couldn’t catch anyone to exchange ammunition with.

Luckily that changed on our way back home. Turns out the locals were setting up a little welcome party, to make sure that we knew that we were appreciated, going door to door, wanting to say hi.

They were a bit off our home hole (phrasing?) so one of us decided he’d go say hi, you know, so that we could warp to him and get the party started. They had a few hurricanes, a few drakes etc etc, you know. The kind of stuff I should not be engaging with a hound. Since that was the stuff I was flying with since I only have a few hounds in our citadel. Oh, and a Proteus, I’ll get to that.

Turns out the welcome party didn’t really think about keeping us there, but luckily we did think about making sure that nobody could leave the party sooner (scrams, get it? I’m making it a bit more interesting). Thus our FC decided to bring out his Proteus, because what better way to use an expensive party ship, if you can leave before it gets rowdy.

This made me log on my other account and get in my Proteus too, it had been a while since I flown it, but last time I did I had fun with it.

This time was no different.

We came, we saw, we exchanged ammunition and fireworks. All in all, it was a good day. I’m looking forward to more of these.

Floating corpses

Last week, in order to put some more effort into my EvE Online carreer I joined a wormhole corporation. I’ve got some experience in wormholes and have had nothing but good memories of my time in them. Thus me finding a corporation to join that lives in a hole, wasn’t that big of a leap.

NPC null is fun, but nothing beats not having local and random people to “harass” when you have a connection to their system.

The one thing that’s a bit harder for wormholes, is getting your ships in them.

Not only did I join a new corporation, I also got a bit more work on my plate IRL which means that I can’t just log in during the day anymore like I’ve done in the past.

I’ve spent the past couple of days waiting for a good connection so I could bring in ships, because I was stuck using a Hound, which got blown up when I was trying to tackle a Drake that was obvious bait.

So today there was a connection close to Amarr a bit deeper down the chain, which meant that I could start flying in ships. One at a time. Yay, right?

In order to make it a bit more efficient for my time I just self destructed outside the citadel everytime so I got cloned back in Amarr. I bet the guys at the clone station must have had a little bet going on how long it would take before I popped back out. Thank god for wigs.

I now have a few of my own corpses in my hanger, since they were floating around the citadel and I did some cleanup, and I’m pretty sure one of them is in another corp member’s hangar. I don’t want to know what he’s going to do with it. We don’t want to go that path.

Anyhow, I’m back at it! And hopefully I’ll be able to update some more again.

Woops

It seems that I should have been paying more attention to what was going on in the wake of citadels coming around etc.

A few months ago I had decided that it would be a good idea to put my ISK into PLEX because they seemed the most stable at the time and I figured their price would more than likely get higher at some point in the future.

Well, I guess I was wrong. After spending the last few weeks abroad I came home the other day and was able to log in, only to see that due to the fall of PLEX, my current worth has dropped around 4b.

Now, it’s not that much but still, I’m a hoarder, I like seeing my ISK rise instead of drop, so it does hurt a little bit.

But I’ll survive, I have told myself countless times that I should not be sitting on my ISK piles like that and should do something with them.

A few months ago my plan was to make a citadel of my own with it, but that got scratched when we were evicted out of our wormhole.

Which reminds me. I need to get back into a wormhole.
